General Description
Overview of the Expressway

    The new Modjo-Hawassa Highway will stretch approximately 2025km. It extends

from the already built Addis Ababais Ababa-Adama Expressway from Modjo town and extends

to Hawassa Town, a fast growing metropolitan center in Southern Ethiopia.

    The project objective is to improve road transport connectivity between those

cities by increasing the traffic-carrying capacity of the road, but furthermore it will

provide road connectivity:At national level linking:The recently opened Hawassa

Industrial Zone.

    A farming region on the south and southwest of the country. Several growing

urban centers.  Main tourist attractions.  At international level, connecting Ethiopia

with:Its neighbor Kenya via the Hawassa-Moyale-Mombasa route, improving the

trade between the two countries.

    The Kenyan port of Mombasa, providing sea access for international trade.  -The

planned Trans-East African Highway, from Cape Town to Cairo.
